Course topics
The course is divided into 11 modules with an Emergency Level First Aid Certification.
- Introduction to the Security Industry
Learn about the necessity of security, as well as your role and responsibilities as a security guard.
- The Private Security and Investigative Services Act
The fundamentals of becoming a security guard cover how you would work with your department to help those in need, how to manage difficult situations and people, how to observe body language, and much more.
- Basic Security Procedures
Security guards need to respond to changes in their environment, so, this section revolves around actions such as traffic movement, ensuring the safety of persons between and within locations, monitoring and managing the access and departure of persons and vehicles, and observing and monitoring people.
- Report Writing
While working as a guard, you'll need to write reports and make notes about the situations and people you see. Being clear and understandable is an essential skill.
- Health and Safety
Being able to assess risks or help those in need is a vital skill for a licensed security guard.
- Emergency Response Preparation
What if the worst happens? Security guards must remain calm and ensure that situations are managed logically and efficiently. The best way to respond to a crisis is to ensure you understand your role in emergencies and have a solid action plan.

As a security guard, you'll need to understand how the legal system works not only for you but for others around you.
- Legal Authorities
As a security guard, you’ll learn the broader legal context of private security and we’ll instruct you on the rights and limitations of a security guard when performing the respective duties as a guard. Our trainer will also explain where a security guard derives his/her authority to carry out job functions.
- Effective Communications
Our college provides the knowledge of the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to adapt to different environments/scenarios and to diffuse situations when required. The importance of using communication to one’s advantage should be emphasized.
- Sensitivity Training
Public relations and customer service is vital aspect of your job as a security guard. The college addresses prejudices against ethnic backgrounds, persons with mental or physical disabilities, and gender and sexual orientation.
- Use of Force Theory
Students need to attend specialized training to learn how to use defensive equipment and to apply the use of force options.
- Emergency Level First Aid Certification
We will also provide you the 6.5 hours ‘Emergency First aid/ CPR training in-person at the campus.
