Accelerated Personal Support Worker Program – Program Description
PSWs play an integral role in the health care sector, and have accrued growing importance during the recent years. The program is designed to train and prepare students to provide supportive care to individuals across their lifespan by assisting
them in their activities of daily living, including clients experiencing cognitive impairment, physical disability, and mental health challenges.
The Accelerated Personal Support Worker Program is 22 weeks in duration and students graduating from the program receive an accredited NACC PSW Certificate along with the College Graduation Certificate.
Students are also given the opportunity to gain hands-on working experience
through placements in long term care homes and retirement homes and practical knowledge in lab classes.

The Accelerated Personal Support Worker is a new and innovative program at the Clarkridge Career Institute. The APSW program helps the students to equip oneself for a career in the health care industry. It helps the students to understand the basics and nuances of compassionate caring while assisting the individuals requiring health care needs and assistance.
The Course consists of 14 modules. These modules are covered in the classroom and in the practicum.

Graduates can find employment in long-term care facilities, retirement residences, hospitals, hospices, in-home care, and health care service organizations. Personal Support Workers provide services to clients with physical, cognitive, emotional and behavioral challenges. Relevant positions include:

Applicants must meet all the requirements below in order to fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria.
Admission selection is based on the following two requirements:
- Academic Requirements:
In order to meet minimum program eligibility, you must possess the following:
- Grade 12 (Ontario Secondary School Diploma) or equivalent; or be at least 18 years of age or older.
- If a mature student, then you must pass a qualifying Test- SLE (Scholastic Level Exam) with minimum score of 11.
- English Proficiency Test:
- IELTS (MIN IELTS SCORE OVERALL 5.5 Bands or
- PTE (MIN PTE SCORE- 43-50) or
- TOEFL (MIN TOEFL SCORE- 525 FOR PAPER BASED TEST AND 80{20W 20R 20L 20S} FOR INTERNET BASED TEST) or
– Pass the NACC Technical Literacy exam prior to admission into the program.
- Medical certificate (includes TB test, immunization status especially Hepatitis B and Covid-19 vaccinantion is strongly recommended)
- Police Clearance Reference Check including Vulnerable Sector check
- Standard First Aid & CPR Level C Certification (provided by the Institute)
